Chandrababu Naidu inspired a generation in Andhra Pradesh and many parts of India. I too was one of them, impressed by transparent administration and development slogan. Back 1990's - while Naidu graph was running high - at the pinnacle of the power he had open door to Prime Minister office. He turned king maker and crowned two or three Prime Ministers of India. At one point - two strong possibilities were in his Political graph. Naidu the life term Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh like Jyothi Basu (he called himself CEO after hobnobbing with the likes of Bill Gates). Or else, becoming Prime Minister of India. Both were indeed strong possibilities.
However, neither proved correct. Naidu was booted out of power in 2004. This was a shock for Naidu and many of his fans. There are many reasons for the Naidu's rout. First, he went too fast with economic reforms in a less industrialised state. He failed to balance between development and subsidies. This hit poor and agriculture sector hard. Second, Naidu concentrated all his development mantra around Hyderabad. Finally, showered under media hype, Naidu became arrogant, out of touch and autocratic. All the Government employees turned against him. He could not even sense the upcoming disaster.
There is no better lesson than failure, if one is prepared to listen and adapt. YS Rajasekhar Reddy, who stepped into the CM chambers reversed most of the Naidu policies. By many accounts, YSR presided one of the corrupt administrations. For the sake of votes and power, development became lopsided and subsidies went up exponentially. Irrational alliances were made that are proving too costly for Congress power in AP and at Delhi in 2014. Congress Government in Delhi suffered from series of corruption scandals. Andhra Pradesh was burning day in and out due to Telngana movement. Under tragic circumstances, YSR passed away.
Everyone knew and acutely aware of huge political vacuum in Andhra Pradesh. Naidu was the answer. But he failed again. This is the third time, after successive election debacles in 2004 an 2009.
First, he fought with YSR on ethics and then continued his petty fight with Jaganmohan Reddy, who is a political novice by any measure. While the state was burning, administration was paralysed, Naidu's political vision blurred out. Since 2004, Naidu claimed by many a great strategist, proved too light on strategy and more consistent on persistent blunders.
He never had a clear policy stand on Telengana Statehood. First he appeared to be for united Andhra Pradesh. Then under intense pressure given a favourable consideration for Telengana. When, Telengana was announced, it was a yorker and looked stunned for a while. When he sensed that sentiment in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema was very strong against the bifurcation of state he changed the tone. Instead of fighting in Delhi where was real power to make or break a decision - he hit the roads of Coastal Andhra. His strategy, this time is not stop to bifurcation but to retain the political base in the limited region. If Naidu were to announce like YSR, that he was not in favour of Telengana, no power at Delhi would have dared to take this decision.
Thinking too big of himself is Naidu's another obvious shortcoming. Despite wide and varied views, there is no denial of the fact that KCR is instrumental in Telengana creation. Naidu still thinks KCR is small time politician and plays down despite KCR huge political success. This is no small feat.
Naidu is good at hypothetical claims. First of them is, Naidu persistent claims that YSR Congress is merely a Congress proxy. What Naidu do not understand is, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is most popular politician in Coastal Andhra and Telengana. Here again, Naidu thinks too big of himself and as he did with KCR he downplays Jagan. Instead of hitting hard on real issues and real solution, Naidu has been clueless.
Naidu however had limited success in his own back yard. He successfully manoeuvred his brothers-in-law and ensured that NTR JR, a potential contender for leadership is checkmated. He cleared path to crown his his son Lokesh. It is interesting to note that Naidu was a ardent opponent of dynastic politics.
With all polls suggesting that Telugu Desam Party is going to beat the dust, slowly all the party cadres are deserting this great party once stood for the pride of Telugus. Naidu, having meekly surrendered, with no credibility left is just eking out with kitchen politics. What a great polical fall out for once tall leader, considered a visionary to be a minnow in his own state?

Undavalli Arun Kumar Rajahmundry Message and Analysis
Undavalli Arun Kumar is politician of intellect and logic. At first, a brief reading of his political standing and acumen is necessary to gain insight and then, understand the logical basis for his Rajahmundry rally. Largely uncontroversial, perhaps little known until Margadarsi episode Arun Kumar public profile had a meteoric raise soon after this head on with Ramoji Rao. It was a well known fact, YS Rajasekhar Reddy personal animosity with media baron was genesis for Arun Kumar's allegations. Being a close associate of YSR and a lawyer by profession, Arun Kumar by and large did a splendid job damaging the reputation of Godly Ramoji Rao. However, his prescience and oratory skills together have raised his reputation in Delhi. He became on of the key "advisors" to high command. At the same time, unlike many other vocal and public attention seeking politicians, he remained largely a back room operator keeping his political network intact.
Against this background, his recent rally and the speech [for Unified Andhra Pradesh] at his home constituency Rajahmundry is already creating waves in the state. Leaving aside the emotional and illogical outbursts, noise and clutter it is clear that Arun Kumar is clearly giving a message either for the United Andhra Pradesh or for the bifurcation of the state. As it happened in the case of Margadarsi episode, there is no personal or political gain for Undavalli by becoming a center of attention. Also, the Seema Andhra group is lead by the powerful Lagadapati Rajgopal, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao or Kavuri Sambasiva Rao (until his recent exit from the scene). There is a general feel KVP Ramachandra Rao could be the mastermind behind this event and speech there of. However Arun Kumar, a life time Congress loyalist and sort of a blue eyed boy of Congress high command would not take a risk of making both logical and emotional statements without the blessings of Congress High Command. To put it simple - at this juncture, the Congress high command would not like accrual of further complications from some one like Vundavalli Arun Kumar.
In a nutshell, Rajahmundry Member of Parliament is conveying high command message. Analyzing his speech, it is obvious that there are two key issues on the table to be resolved. First, what to do with the Hyderabad? In his speech and subsequently, despite saying "Jai Telengana", he is making a strong case that - never in the history of independent India - state Capital region was included in request for separation. Madras, Bombay, Patna, Bhopal remained with the original unified state while rest of the state was separated into Andhra, Gujarat, Jarkhand or Chattisgarh. Does it mean - Telengana without Hyderabad is a possibility with out further bloodbath?
Second, and more importantly - who should take the credit for creating a Telengana state? As long as TRS remains a separate political entity, the credit would go to Telengana Rastra Samithi and K Chandra Sekhar Rao & his family (son K T Rama Rao, daughter K Kavitha and nephew Harish Rao). This is a risk Congress does not want to take. At his best, KCR is least trustworthy partner and his maverick decisions and outbursts or on par with Mamata Benerjee . Hence, Undavalli cleverly explained TDP and Chandra Babu Naidu case in the context and explained why Naidu was not adored by TRS despite his revised positive stand to create Telengana. As long as Congress is in power, the credit for any success and political benefit must go to Gandhi's. As of now, it is not possible. Hence, Arun Kumar is repeatedly stated that it is TRS which does not want Telengana for political gains in 2014. It means, only on prior [unconditional] merger of TRS, Congress would make a positive announcement.
Finally, he lead to the key point to have a logical and meaningful discussions between the leaders of both regions [setting aside emotions and sentiments]. This means, protecting the interests of Andhra and Rayalaseema region and their people in Telengana.
Unless all these these three points are agreed in principle by TRS and Congress leaders in Telengana, Congress High Command is not in a position to take a final decision.
This time, they could not find any better politician than Vundavalli Arun Kumar who is good at explaining subtle issues. Job done, but will it yield results?

Bollywood Climax for Telengana
Going by the recent reports, majority people are lead to believe that Congress High Command is now close to take a decision on Telengana. Since Congress came to the power in 2004 the Political, Cultural, Economic and Social equations in the state are in constant flux. Soon after the sudden demise of YS Rajasekhar Reddy - during the tenure of Rosaiah the state went through it's worst patch. However the current Chief Minister could moderate the situation to a great extent. As it stands, the Telengana movement is off the cliff. The Telengana Rastra Samithi (TRS) and it's maverick leader K Chandra Sekhara Rao (KCR) have more or less come to a conclusion that the current UPA government would not grant the Telengana statehood.
At this juncture, while the agitation is subdued and normalcy is returning in the state, recent decision of Union Home Minister Shinde is a surprise. This process, I would imagine it is more of a strategic move of Congress. It's survivability in power post 2014 elections, now firmly hangs on the numbers returned to Parliament from Andhra Pradesh.
Coming to the facts, it is an open secret that the Congress party and it's Government general health is very bad. The Congress MP numbers elected from Andhra Pradesh were key for the two term UPA Government. Also, Congress never formed Government at Delhi without winning Andhra Pradesh. If Congress were to form the next Government in 2014 and crown Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister - it is the time Congress must take some important strategic decisions.
From ground zero (the possibility of winning no seats), the decision should be purely for short term gains. Already some Congress spin doctors in Andhra region are singing to the tunes of High Command supporting Telengana State. The key challenge though is to take a prudent decision out of infinite options - including no decision.
To put it in plain and simple terms, formation of Telengana is more than a political decision. Passions would run very high on the other side in Seema-Andhra (as we have seen in Telengana region until now) and people would come on to the roads spontaneously. While Telugu Desam got into the political trap, Jagan and his YSR Congress is non-committal on the bifurcation. When emotions raked up, logical explanation would not work. TDP and Congress would washout in elections. In a nutshell, YSR Congress clean sweep in both State and Parliament elections (in Seema - Andhra). It would become reckoning force in national political scene.
On the other side, in Telengana - as it happened with Prajarajyam Party, TRS would merge with Congress. This combined political entity (Congress + TRS) would gain good numbers in elections, but it is not going to be a clean sweep. Hyderabad Metro area, Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahabub Nagar districts would become key battle grounds. It is hard to tell, but in all likelihood - YSR Congress may emerge winner in these close contests.
Since TRS would lose it's public identity, like PRP it would become irrelevant. TDP would continue to have another 5 years of opposition benches behind Congress in Andhra and behind YSR Congress in Telengana.
Now going back to Delhi backroom operator strategy, the numbers as a result of decision on Telengana (pure bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh) would not help Congress and NDA. While this outcome is a disaster for TDP, Congress would as well pay a heavy price. Then why would Congress high command go for a decision that would immensely benefit their political opponent?
Hence, Congress would need a different strategy that would accommodate "interests" of the three regions in some ratio and at the same time maximize the benefit for the party. If full Telengana statehood is granted, then the credit would go to TRS and in particular KCR. Again while Congress is in power all the credit must go to Gandhi's. In the long run, though it could seek "strategic" understanding with the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy - it is difficult to imagine if Jagan would be a Chiranjeevi to surrender completely. Now that he has been languishing in the jail for too long, Jagan would definitely seek a political revenge. Immediate crowing of Rahul Gandhi is very difficult. Again the key question - why to take a decision comes back to the frame.
Here is crux of the issue - Hyderabad metro area.
Congress would have to come with a Bollywood movie style climax. Finish all the opponents and make the audience very happy. Make Madam Gandhi and Price Rahul heroes.
The theme is - Grant Telengana state without Hyderabad Metro. On the face of it, Telengana side politicians would at first resist the decision. As it is happening with Mayawati or Mulayam, Congress high command could use the "Assets" or "CBI" to force KCR and the vocal Congress leaders to silence. Any residual resistance would taper off once the passions subside. On face of it Telangana is granted. For KCR, ambition of becoming Chief Minister would be full filled, perhaps for one term. Subsequently, the new Telengana State would be fertile ground for BJP.
On the other side in Rayalaseema and Andhra regions, as long is Hyderabad is out of newly proposed Telengana state, then all classes of people would be more or less satisfied. Political and business class would see potential opportunity to "develop" a new state (Seemandhra or Andhra Pradesh as it would be called). It is not difficult to sell both logic and emotions to the mass voters. Any resistance from united Andhra forces would similarly taper off soon afterwards.
Since MIM is out Congress favour (perhaps their strategic blunder), they have limited options to resist. As long as Hyderabad is kept out, on the face of it - it is good decision for Muslims. With long term prospects for BJP on raise with in the new Telengana State, MIM also gain equally. If Hyderabad is made a new State (or Union Territory) - MIM is likely to form a Government sooner than later.
For Congress, this decision would ensure footing on either side of the fence. YSR Congress cannot sweep the state. Telegu Desam Party and Chandrababu Naidu would be blamed by all quarters. Congress back room operators can always play a secular card and form alliance with MIM.
New States would return to a sort of normalcy and 2014 elections run would kick off.
Rahul Gandhi would be praised for his extraordinary political acumen for resolving a complex issue simmering for nearly five decades or more!
Win for Congress and MIM. Partial win for TRS and YSR Congress. Total loss for TDP.

Jagan landslide and democarcy in dilemma
First time it was accident, second time it was luck - but if happens third time - it is a habit. Jagan Mohan Reddy as expected became a hero with resounding victories at Kadapa, Nellore and now across 16 constituencies in the state. These landslide victories have taught a lesson or two for most for his opponents. However, fresh questions have been raised by observers on the very genesis of his success with in the context of the democracy.
Executive, judiciary and legislature are the three pillars of the democracy. During the past 60 years, the key players in this System have made a mockery and the result is, a nation that has been paralyzed by non-performance and corruption scandals. As they have few options, citizens have elected scores of representatives with criminal records and sent them to both Parliament and state legislatures. Of them, until recently - Jagan Mohan Reddy is just one. However, with the game changing victories that knocked out Telugu Desam Party and Congress, fresh questions have been raised.
Some of the leaders in the state questioned the wisdom of the voters who have voted for the YSRCP. Some of the leaders branded the victory an emotional blackmail. Many of the bitter critics called it a doomsday. One high profile leader in the state even called it an accidental voting on account of circumstances. At once this victory moved the gravity from Jagan's corruption issues on which the elections have been fought by his opponents to, questioning citizens fundamental right in democracy - Vote.
Now the question is about who is right and who is wrong?
Jagan has been charged but he is not convicted. Taking the adage, no one is guilty until proven, people who have voted in the elections by and large did not believe what the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy, CBI, Congress Party and Chandra Babu Naidu have been claiming.
Within widely corrupted democratic system in India there are few holy cows. Some of the holy cows like Manmohan Singh, perhaps are more damaging to systems than the acknowledged rotten elements. Thus, there is locus standi for any debate based on corruption or honesty. As we have seen, when the time comes - all the forces across the party lines join to pip lokpal bill and in turn work towards damaging the reputation of Anna Hazare and his associates.
The key point is, the three pillars in democracy are expected to work for the poor, vulnerable and needy sections of the society. However, with the widening divide between rich and poor, most of the elected representative forget their constituents soon after getting a ticket to Delhi or Hyderabad. Despite all the allegations, both YS Rajasekhar Reddy and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made the difference at this level. They have connected with the people. Listened to them. Tried to understand them. At the end, what matters to a voter is - how best they are taken care off. A mere statistic, or a simplified technocratic definition of poverty at Rs 26 per day, or a full meal to eke out a life?
When I visit a temple I do not question chastity of the priest. When I go to school, my focus is on how good my teacher is but not his background. At the end of the day, 99% people want solutions to their problems and opportunities for survival. Who cares if YSR or Jagan are corrupt as long as they take care of their constituents?
Many critics continue to question Jagan and his victory. May refuse to accept it. May come out statistics that his victory is not as convincing as it is seen. But the crux of the matter is Service to the Citizens. All those Congress and TDP leadership have amassed huge wealth and yet they cared little for the people. If they are serious to defeat Jagan, then there is no option but to connect with people and work for their welfare. It is high time if Chandrababu Naidu realize that, Eenadu with all the crap filings is key constituent of his down fall. Equally, Congress should have realized that, more they talk against YSR or Jagan they are exposing themselves.
The bottom line is, citizens are the foundation for the three pillar of the democracy. Despite all the allegation, Jagan's and YSRCP victory is honest in people court and it is in black and white. There is no scope for debate on this verdict.

12 June 2012 Elections: Is it a test for Political Parties?
Telengana, that was the battleground of all the elections fought after 2004, is not the core issue for the elections slated on June 12, 2012. This election campaign is already deep into a murky territory - strangely centered around corruption agenda. The three parties Congress, YSR Congress and Telugu Desam Party are fighting hard to finish the opponents - many are calling Semi-finals. Every party is using all the means and options at their disposal to crush the others and prove their chastity, honesty and commitment to the citizens and state development.
For the past couple of years, Anna Hazare team at the national level is fighting hard to fight against the corrupt system. Congress in particular has been in deep trouble on account of Anna's onslaught. Series of national scandals, small and big shook the confidence of the nation. Even the hardcore Congress supporters are on defense when valid questions have been raised. The questions like, non performing Prime Minister, power at 10 Janpath, lack of charisma of Prince Rahul Gandhi and debacle in Utter Pradesh Elections, the tussle with Gen VK Sharma on the Army preparedness may never get convincing answers. The state of BJP is even worse. With Vajpayee fading out of limelight, BJP is struggling hard to find an acceptable face. Even otherwise, the state of affairs in Karnataka and corruptions scandals have put the Opposition on a defensive sticky wicket.
The Congress in Andhra Pradesh is at it worst since 1980-82 period. Rocked by corruption scandals, ineffective administration, blatant misuse of power and infighting - it does on have any credibility. The liquor scandals and taming the upright officers is just one example to show how Government deals with real issues and corruption. With this track record, Congress without any doubt using the power to cut Jagan Mohan Reddy's tail and brand him Mr. Corrupt. The swift action from CBI and it's decisive move to cut-off the financial roots is just a political act with official veil.
If the corruption is the plank for the election battle, Telugu Desam Party standing is no better. Despite working hard to prove the honesty, very few believe Chandra Babu Naidu honesty. Leaving aside his rule, even while in the opposition - Naidu is largely surrounded by businessmen whose meteoric raise is as questionable as Naidu's own. There are many people who still believe Naidu amassed huge wealth while in power but cleverly channeled the sums. Naidu is the architect of the economic liberalization of the state, and during his 9 year rule lot more people have benefited by skyrocketing real estate prices in and around Hyderabad state. Despite coming from very humble origins, Naidu is not a middle class person by any measure.
This comes to YS Jaganmohan Reddy who is largely on the receiving end. Both for TDP and Congress, Jagan is the prime target. Both are equally aware of the dangers, if Jagan were to emerge victorious. If Congress is using Official machinery to hunt down Jagan, Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy the staunch TDP supporters are working round the clock to paint him a villain.
The strange thing is, while working hard to expose Jagan's ill-gotten wealth, both Congress and TDP are picturing themselves honest and holy cows. Instead of corruption, those voters ready to decide the Semi Final results may have judge on wider repercussions and key considerations:
1. YSR Congress Party was never is in power. Unlike Congress and TDP which were blown on and off by number of corruptions scandals, the key question is - is Jagan guilty and corrupt? The verdict is not out. Remember - YS Rajasekhar Reddy branded Naidu a corrupt politician to the core and now Congress is working hard to prove YSR and regime was corrupt. Hence, corruption does not have a locus standi in the battleground.
2. Congress is in terminal state. Now the question is who is next to rule the state? Choice is between Naidu and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy only. Kiran Kumar Reddy is at the mercy of the Sonia Gandhi. He does not have his own ground and standing.
3. Who is capable of keeping the state peaceful and move into the development direction. Congress has failed. Jagan is untested. Naidu is untrusted.
4. Who got the guts to fight the weak central government on the lines of Jayalalithaa or Mamata Banerjee? Naidu is good at protecting his interests. Jagan proved a firebrand till now but he is not tested
5. Who got credibility? Naidu again stands at the lowest point. Jagan appears a shade above. None of the Congress leaders do not stand anywhere on the scale. What is Chiranjeevi standing now?
What is means? It is the real test for voter. Deciding to vote on a propaganda onslaught may prove disastrous for the state. Welcome Mr Narasimhan!
Common fate of Great Telugu Political leadership
Telugu speaking have been divided for ages. Until 50-60 years back they were split in between Nizam of Hyderabad and British. Prior to that, they were split during the times of Moguls, Vijayanagara empire, Kaktiyas, Kalinga period, Chola times. If we go into the history the state of Andhra Pradesh as it exists now, it has been split amongst three or even four kingdoms at any given time.
The controversial issue of passing predominantly Telugu speaking Madras City into Tamil hands, or Bellary District into Mysore state or Berhampur to Orissa are few but striking examples, reflecting dis-unity amongst the Telugu speaking people.
Along the lines of this geographic separation, Telugu people, Telugu media and Telugu political leadership paid a significant role to pull down their own rising stars over the past. As a result, despite occasional resurgence, Telugu people by and large loved to live as gulaams (virtually slaves) under non-Telugus.
Let's start with Tanguturi Prakasam, one of the 1st Telugu Leaders in the erstwhile Madras state to get into the prominence. All his life, he waged constant war against Tamil leadership and Congress high command in Delhi. Despite he was popular mass leader in the Madras Presidency - in the end, it was our own Telugu political leadership conspiring with Tamils and Delhi sidelined Tangutiri Prakasam Pantalu. A wealthy barrister, Prakasam sacrificed all his life and wealth for the freedom struggle, yet died a poor man. While Prakasam's contemporaries in Tamil land like Rajaji, Periar and Annadurai were feted and revered even today, Prakasam was almost forgotten during his life time and less said about him is better now.
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the 1st Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was one of the powerful leaders of his times. Honest and able administrator, decades later when he contested for the Presidency of India - Indira Gandhi fielded another fellow Telugu person - Varahahiri Venkata Giri. Despite being the official congress candidate - Sanjiva Reddy lost the election. Though there was no personal rivalry between Reddy and Giri - in the end, Reddy, one of the respected leaders of Andhra Pradesh lost because of slave mindset of Telugu's. It was a different story that, Sanjiva Reddy went on to become the President of India a decade later. In comparison, examine the kind of respect Kamaraj gets in Tamil Nadu though he was never a President of India.
PV Narasimha Rao, rated one of the best Prime Ministers India ever had, was never respected in his home state. Despite changing the fortunes of India for good, in the end - Rao was humiliated in his later years and in his death. Sonia's personal apathy and the events that unfolded following his death were blatantly clear to one and all. But the stock silence of all Telugu people, Telugu media and more importantly by the fellow congressmen for all the humiliation meted to one of Scholarly Prime Minsters of India is just another example of slave mindset of Telugus. There is no denial of the fact and role played by the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy to bury Rao's legacy. Despite the strong demand to name the Hyderabad airport after Rao or NT Ramarao, YS Rajasekhar Reddy true to his gulaami nature named the airport after Rajiv Gandhi.
NT Rama Rao, greatest leader of the Telugu speaking people - died in isolation and humiliation. Despite his extraordinary wins and shooting down Congress to bring an end to the Delhi rule, Ramarao was stabbed by his Sons, daughters, second wife, Telugu media, Telugu political leadership. Despite all the efforts to bury NTR legacy by none other than Chandrababu Naidu, NTR remains the most popular Telugu leader even in his death. It is shocking to see the leaders like KCR and TRS picking on NTR and Telugu Desam Party - though everyone knows KCR political birth and subsequent success was only because of a great leader like NTR.
For Naidu, despite all the hi tech success during his regime is struggling to survive on account of his credibility and back stabbing from the fellow leadership with in and outside TDP. Chiranjeevi was never a great political leader nor a rising star. Yet, political future of Megastar it is now in black and white. His community, media, Congress leadership and himself contribute to this common fate.
After doing all the gulaami job while in power, now YS Rajasekhar Reddy is now facing the similar situation in his death. Congress leaders both in state and Delhi are working round the clock to bury YSR legacy and also re-picture him as the most corrupt Chief Minister of AP. Media like Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy are have already pronounced guilty verdict even before case went to court. This is almost akin to what happened to PV in case of Babri Masjid issue. Congress knows well how to disown their own leaders if the circumstances demand and Delhi high command is willing. All gulaami leaders would be ready with ammunition to fire the shots from all the vantage points. Probably YS Jagan was right in one way to leave Congress and start his own party. It is too early to predict what is going to be Jagan's fate. Despite all the allegations, Jagan is the most popular leader in the state. If the history of Telugus is a yardstick for evaluating an outcome, Jagan's fate would be no different - sooner or later.
In the end, it is called the common fate of the gulaami Telugu leaders

AP State: Politcal & Power Equations Impending Shift
From around 2008, Andhra Pradesh effectively entered into the 4th phase of political power shift from the currently dominant Reddy to Kapu community. In AP, while Caste is ubiquitous factor in all the facets of life, in politics this is the predominant factor for Power.
Until independence while Andhra was part of Madras State, Brahmins were dominant political force. Being wealthy at that time, their education and willingness to migrate to urban centres helped them to lead politically. As a result, most of the 1st generation leaders of this time were Brahmins. Similar situation to a lesser extent prevailed even in erstwhile Hyderabad state. Tanguturi Prakasam and Burgula Ramakrishna Rao both Brahmins, were the 1st Chief Ministers of Andhra and Hyderabad states respectively. . Brahmin M.P's and M.L.A's have significant numbers perhaps until the formation of Andhra Pradesh state in 1956.
Since 1956 the Reddy's have become politically dominant. Successive Chief Ministers since Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy were Reddy's until 1983. While Brahmins migration to urban centres disconnected them in the predominantly rural state from their roots (vote banks), Reddy's strength stems from their hold on lands and agriculture. With their wealth and economic dominance, Reddy's have virtually controlled the state politics. During the course of time, Reddy's consolidated their hold on Education and entered into diversified fields but always ensured the grip on their roots. The Reddy tag become so much aligned with political power in the state that, even non-Reddies started suffixing their names with Reddy. This 2nd phase was longest period of political authority by a single community. Despite PV Narasimha Rao becoming Prime Minister Brahmins virtually were out of the political power structure.
Like Reddy's, Kamma community as well come with similar socio-economic background. Being agriculturists and landlords, their main focus was movies, business and other fields than politics until late late 1970's. Kammas have had a meteoric political raise, thanks to NT Rama Rao. Since then, until the defeat of N Chandrababu Naidu in 2004, the Phase-3 of the Power shift was heavily in the hands of this community.
It is hard to say, if YS Rajasekhar Reddy years were of Reddy dominance. YSR was open and frank of his Christian Religion and during his time, apart from his own family the people who gained were mostly from the diversified communities.
It was a open secret that Chiranjeevi political entry was to assert the Kapu Community and shift the power balance. Since the death of YSR and departure of Jagan from Congress - role of Kapu community is on steady raise. Unlike Brahmins (3%), Reddy's (7%-10%)and Kamma's (3%)- Kapu's have numerical strength. With the amalgamation of sub-sects they are the single largest community in the state. Despite having fair share in Assembly and Parliament, they were more or less restricted from entering the power corridors. This was largely due to lack of the education, social and political awareness and more importantly realisation of their own strengths. Thanks to the ongoing Telengana movement, the other backwards and scheduled castes also asserting their political significance. Also during the course of past 2 decades, all the communities have become wealthy and entered into the diversified fields. The traditional land owning patterns also have started to change though, slowly. Finally everyone in politics have mastered the art of winning the power.
Reddy community success is now more or less depends on the fortunes of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Kamma's traditional alignment with Telugu Desam, and the emergence of Kapu's pushed them into the 3rd (or 4th) position in Congress. Even the Kamma leaders who have had the opportunity in power corridors are playing safe - for their personal gains. Unless, TDP returns to the power - Kamma's are net losers. Even if TDP is successful, Naidu cannot ignore the Kapu's who would take the large chunk of power. With internal power struggles within Nara and Nandamuri clans, once a clean party is looking very vulnerable from their own community. There is no hope for Telugu Brahmins politically in the state - mainly because they do not have a strategy and unity (this the 1st and the last community in the state to announce Telengana Brahmins associations etc).
This is the decisive phase while power shifts for the first time from forward communities to Kapus and backward communities. The trends are clear. For example, Bosta family virtually controls the north coastal Andhra Pradesh. There is no single family in the state with such a grip. Even Jagan is restricted to Kadapa only. Chiranjeevi is their lucky mascot for the community for political gains. This is already evident.
As I see, 2014 would see the dominance of Kapu's in the power corridors and already politically hypersensitive state would face more uncertainties on account of this power shift and impending power struggle.

Jagan Success, Corruption and Future
Indrasena Reddy, Samasinha Reddy, Adi Kesava Reddy and now Jaganmohan Reddy!. I loved watching the first three Reddy's on the Tollywood Screens. Today, we have seen the fourth Reddy, Jagan in the real life. Challenge, action and job done! Even his die hard followers would not have anticipated this spectacular result. This is the result Jagan cannot even sustain or repeat even in the next election. Call it hard work, alternative option, money magic, Kadapa bomb culture or credibility of the family - the result once for all cemented many open questions until now are the platform for debates.
As I said in my one of my earlier blogs, not many political personalities survived challenging, Nehru's or Gandhi's (from Mahatma Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi). That element of fear was seen even in YS Rajasekhar Reddy - and hence he always attributed all his political success and political survival to I, R and S Gandhi's. Jagan took a different path. Challenged Sonia Gandhi in public and then unlike any other politician in the contemporary politics (unprecedented)- resigned for the MP position and along with his mother Vijayalakshmi's MLA seat, came out in public and fought a real war. This is no simple battle. For all others, it is one of their elections battles. For Jagan it is do or die situation. Had he lost the election or won with any thing but huge margin - his political career is finished. By all means, he proved to be honest and upfront in his fight. Despite, 18 Cabinet Ministers of the state camping in Kadapa along with Kiran Kumar Reddy personal interest under Sonia Gandhi watch, Jagan won against huge odds. Well done!
Now coming to question of how Jagan won the election. The Telugu Desam Party and their Yellow media might say it his illegally earned money that won him the seat. According to the accounts Rs 300 Crores was spent in the campaign. Of that even assuming Jagan's share is 50%, the rest is spent by TDP and Congress. There is no doubt that, even that money is unaccounted or black money since Election rules does not permit spending beyond certain limit. Basicaly all all black sheep and Jagan's colour is a little dark.
Now coming to the Jagan's wealth and meteoric raise, I liked the explanation given by Vundavalli Arun Kumar in "Open Heart with RK" (one of the best programs to watch basically due to Vemuri Radhakrishna's lucid style).
Incidentally Arun Kumar, a 2nd term MP from Rajahmundry - was a staunch follower of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, but now having a soured relationship with Jagan was attacked by YSR Congress and Jagan coterie. Coming to the point, Vundavalli clearly explained the difference between Ramoji Rao and YS Jaganmohan Reddy wealth and why Jagan is legally correct even though Technically (by Dharma) could be wrong. However, neither Eenadu nor Chandrababu Naidu would stop continue their assault (though their origins were lot worse than Jagan's). (I am not supporting Jagan in any way. But my view that all these politicians are corrupt does not need any special attention for Jagan as an issue)
Now coming to the future - if attaining success is a challenge, sustaining is going to be even more a gigantic task. For all, we have seen Jagan is less a politician and more a firebrand Leader. Probably his assets could be like his father credibility and trust. The clear verdict would be a disaster for Congress. How Telugu Desam is going to revive would depend more on Jagan's strategic mistakes than Chandrababu Naidu Chanakya neethi. Though at the outset TRS is happy with Jagan's win with the hope that a decision on Telangana would be taken, Jagan like his father would not support bifurcation. With Mamata Benerjee and Jayalalithaa in power any state bifurcation would have serious resistance from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu due cascading effects. The only serious possibility of TRS merging with Congress also look a feeble option.
With this election, I think for the first time - since 1983 election - YSR family established itself as the first political family of the state, displacing Nadamuri-Nara families. With even spread of Reddy's across the state, YS Jagan vote bank and appeal would be strongest across the state than any other leader. With Naidu struggling with Telangana revolt internally, Congress without any leaders, Brand Jagan is perfectly placed to take a jolly ride. Will he succeed or how much, time only would tell.

Why Jagan win & Telangana State linked
If we go by current indications, the discussion is not around who will win the Kadapa and Pulivendula elections. It is more about margin of victory and who will come second between Telugu Desam Party and Congress candidates.
Despite all this, High command in Delhi is pulling all it's "resources" at their disposal to see YSR congress party is defeated. I think the loss for Congress, irrespective of where it would stand in the counting would have serious consequences at national level. That is why we are seeing 8 or 9 Jagan Mohan Reddy's in field. It may sound as though Congress wanted teach a lesson for YS Jaganmohan Reddy. The fact otherwise is, a loss here would mean a serious blow Congress political base.
Today, looking at the Congress Government performance since 2009 - even under the normal circumstances it would be very difficult for them to return to the power in 2014. Considering the pathetic situation of Telugu Desam Party, merger of Chiranjeevi into Congress and the extremely volatile fortunes of Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) - in a nutshell there is no clear alternative for the Congress in the state.
Telugu Desam is non existent in Telangana region. With in the Andhra region, it does not hold a landslide support either - though the fortunes are better. Congress situation is almost similar. In Telangana - it's position is dependent on emotional factors rather than a solid base. This support base could be shifted away by KCR in TRS favour with his charged speeches. All in all, looking forward to 2014, the state is not really keen to vote for incumbent party but - there is no choice.
I think - Jaganmohan Reddy's one of the calculations must be based on this political vacuum.
Today both in Congress and TDP there are lot of fence sitters who would be willing to go enmasse with YSR Congress, provided he comes out victorious. In addition to Reddy base, I think Jagan is having strong support from Kapu's and minorities. This vote base would be good enough for him - to win Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. The fortunes in Telangana region would be dependent on his political strategies. One of them could be a tactical understanding with TRS. If this happens, Andhra and Rayalaseema regions would go with YSR Congress and TRS would take Telangana.
For Congress this would be a serious blow. It would be loosing 42 seats in loksabha and getting back into power is impossible.
Now congress needs a political strategy. One of the options is - announce Telangana State with the condition that, TRS would merge with Congress and that KCR would prostrate in front of 10, Janpath. If Telangana comes, KCR would be happy to do this merger. Congress can now count 9-10 loksabha seats.
All the political and social unrest that we have been seeing in Telangana region would shift to Andhra - Rayalaseema regions. But Congress fortunes would dramatically improve in Telangana.
Now Andhra and Rayalaseema would be new battle ground. In addition to the spontaneous outburst from the public - the impossible looks possible - that is a strategic understanding between and TDP and YSR Congress for the united Andhra Pradesh. In politics no one is a permanent friend or a foe. Let is be Unvadalli or Chiranjeevi - opportunities build the bridges and they break them in wider context
One thing is sure - Kadapa election would decide amongst many the prospects for the Telangana state.

Ramaji Rao & Chandrababu Naidu - A Brief History
This is the interesting article published in Saakshi Telugu paper giving the details of Ramoji Rao and Chandrababu Naidu nexus and their meteoric raise in politics and business. Illustratively provides details on their wealth accumulation from the ground zero. I do not know, to what extent the details in the article are true. Assuming even 50% accuracy, this is amazing rags to riches story. This article is perhaps a typical story of typical politician or a businessmen in present day Andhra Pradesh. Perhaps Chandrababu Naidu or Ramoji Rao role models for other aspiring politicians and businessmen.

Why Chiranjeevi & PRP should fight in Telangana?
By elections to 10 seats in Telangana are imminent. Every party is having a game plan. First the "maverick" K Chandrasekhara Rao who forced these elections on Telangana people at first expected no fight in the elections. KCR wanted all those MLA's who were forced out some six months ago to be back in assembly unopposed, got trapped in Congress game plan.
Nizamabad became core to the congress game plan. It was Dharmapuri Srinivas, the PCC President who lost this seat to TRS candidate. With sudden demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, D Srinivas lost a golden opportunity. Had he been an MLA, DS would have been Chief Minister. But the choice went for K Rosaiah. Despite all round support from Congress high command Rosaiah is looking vulnerable on all fronts. Congress is not having any alternative and it is not willing to give CM chair to YS Jagan who is still waging wars and battles. To counter Jagan, DS probably is seeing himself as best alternative since he comes from Telangana, a Backward caste leader, and 100% faithful to high command (essentially it means, he does not use his brain for any important decision). Rosaiah qualifies only on the last aspect and hence DS is dreaming of Chief Minister like his other friend neighbouring district, G Venkata Swamy had been dreaming of President of India.
Anyway, getting back to the subject - Telugu Desam & Nara Chandrababu Naidu game plan is different - it wants to nail down TRS and KCR as much as possible. Both Congress and TDP, as far as this election is concerned are at ground zero. Any one contesting in the election will gain if at all, expect TRS which will have to defend it's position. In this game plan, Naidu is trying to kill two birds with one shot. Even if TDP gains couple of seats then, he could control TDP leaders from Telangana and shut their mouths. Secondly it will make TRS defensive.
Now, the last important party is Prajarajyam - and decision from Chiranjeevi. Unlike Congress and TDP, Chiranjeevi took decisive step in going for United Andhra Pradesh. That means, he wanted to keep Andhra Pradesh as a single state without bifurcation. And that includes Telangana. Unlike TDP and Congress leaders he never demeaned Telangana or Telangana people. He is in a unique position. But for some reason, he lacks the game plan and strategy (not first time). While Chiranjeevi is coming to the core issue straight on, Congress and TDP taking contextual stand. For example, if TRS looses 8 seats in the elections -then both TDP and Congress would change the game plan. Immediately they will join Chiranjeevi boat and claim that Telangana sentiment is not as strong (it is import to understand this tone and language).
There is no doubt that Congress came back to power in 2009 only because of Chiranjeevi. He split the votes and that benefited Congress. How many votes PRP would get if it contests in the elections - 0 or 1? Chiru got it's core bank and that would be in thousands. Even if Chirnajeevi does not win the elections, he would not loose. He can claim for the outcome without letting TDP and Congress hijacking all glory. Secondly, Chiranjeevi also proves "active" politician. For someone who had seen many ups and downs in silver screen before becoming a Megastar, Chiranjeevi must of learned of the risks. When he took the riskiest decision to go for United Andhra Pradesh then, Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana matters.
In the end, actions matter than words. Don't miss the action!

By sending Balakrishna to Lakshmi Parvati (second wife of NT Rama rao) who is not in terms with any single family member, Naidu made Balakrishna a comic character in public eyes, while he runs behind the scene show.

Bosta Satyanarayana - Strategic positioning
Botsa Satyanarayana called the first shots - and announced, his full blown support for the bifurcation of the AP state. He was called a cheater or political opportunist by the so called Seemandhra leaders who are by and large in favour of United Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, he was complimented for his pragmatism and has been praised by the Telangana leaders who are in favour of Telangana state. Slowly, few more cabinet ministers have already started supporting the call along with Botsa's own supporters in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This could be either overall Congress game plan or Bosta's own strategy. In case, I think Botsa has positioned himself very well. If Andhra State forms as he is suggesting - then Botsa would be the powerful leader and without any doubt will be in reckoning for Chief Minister position.
Bosta comes from the Vizianagaram district. He is a backward class - (Toorpu) Kapu leader from a backward region. And he had a meteoric raise in Andhra Pradesh politics. Since Congress came to power in 2004 - he and his family have gained an iron grip in North Coastal Andhra political scene. Despite initial hiccups, sometimes becoming a comic character for the daily news papers and TV's, Bosta clearly mastered the art of politics. Even the wily YS Rajasekhar Reddy could not challenge Bosta aspirations and as a result we have now 3 or 4 MLA's, one MP and one ZP Chairman from his family - all in Vizianagaram district! Ample demonstration of his powerful position in the state politics.
[See this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLms39wDZT8]. I think Bosta got tremendous clarity, understanding and expression of his thought. His voice shows conviction and he knows what to say and what not to say even in the live discussion.
Well, in Andhra Pradesh there are lot of perceptions. Andhra people think they are superior (I do not know in what terms) to Telangana or Rayalaseema people [that is a root cause of Telangana agitation]. Similarly even in Andhra - people from Krishna and Guntur think Godavari district people are less clever and they in turn think - Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram district people are less clever and or less superior. This is the first deceptive view of Botsa Satyanarayana. Let me now put this in perspective. Even Y S Rajasekhar Reddy was considered "less intelligent" and "less clever" or "foolish" than Chandrababu Naidu. This was the view of TDP, Naidu and even the newspapers like Eenadu and Andhrajyothy. YSR comes from Rayalaseema! But, it is now historic fact that YSR was the smartest politician of the last decade.
Moving beyond deceptions - traditionally strong leaders always come from poorer and backward regions (YSR, Naidu, PV, Rajiv, Sonia etc). Being from a backward region - Bosta is naturally positioned to be a strong leader. Secondly, Botsa is the ready answer for backward classes thirst for the political power. If we look in Andhra - there are no mass leaders. Lagdapati, Kavuri or Rayapati reach is not beyond Krishna and Guntur areas. In south, Jagan is paying price for the blunders and he is not in reckoning for the top slot except in the view of Sakshi.
No one is ready to trust Chandrababu Naidu. Perhaps if Andhra state forms the biggest casualties are Naidu and Jagan. Now coming to other equations - Kapu's would become the largest and numerically influential community in Andhra region. They are starving for power since Chiranjeevi failed miserably. While Chiranjeevi took a decision and made a blunder, Naidu by not taking any decision made a gigantic blunder. Thus thanks to Babu and Chiru, Botsa with political, monetary muscle is in best position to counter the strong Kamma, Reddy and other upper caste communities.
With the fast pace politics and rapidly changing equations - anything is possible. But, I think - Botsa is clearly positioned himself to become the Chief Minister of Andhra State or Andhra Pradesh State. Of course, in any political race - it is not the first who called the shots always won but I do not under estimate Botsa Satyanarayana or Sattibabu as he is fondly called!

Congress is going to win 2014 AP elections
I can now safely predict that Congress will be the winner in 2014 Andhra Pradesh elections. Remember - I am saying it will be Andhra Pradesh. Let me explain how it is likely to happen. As I discussed in my earlier blog this month, fear is already introduced into the Congress "leaders" mind. With all the JAC related drama of the last two days, but for 2 Congress MLA's (Muthyam and Damodar Reddy) none have resigned. Now all the Congress leaders are fearing the worst - "disgrace from the party high command" while "Telangana Reddy brothers" repenting their decision already.
All Andhra and Rayalaseema Congress leaders are silent as they see - Srikrishna commission is not likely to get Telangana state. Having sensed this truth they are concentrating their energies elsewhere.
In a nutshell, Congress is getting all it's leaders under control with the fear factor. With Congress leaders developing cold feet - for Joint Action Committee and Kodandaram, already resources are depleting fast. TDP leaders are already having a problem with Kodandaram - the future of JAC is very bleak.
Now the only major issue for the Congress is Osmania University. Students are the mass. They think they could do anything (may be seeing dialogues in some Tollywood movies) under illusionary confidence. Hence we are seeing all the heat and emotions. This will have to be brought down to normal state. For this, only route will be to break them or otherwise convince them about the consequences. With depleting resources, and breaking up of JAC, the Congress leaders would be asked by high command to prevail on the students. This will happen in coming weeks and probably TRS would also join to pacify the situation. The next manta will be let's wait for Srikrishna commission findings and have faith in Sonia.
It is easy to convince the students with message "it is Congress and TRS, eventually will get Telangana state". Telugu Desam Party and for that matter Nara Chandrababu Naidu have lost all the credibility. Despite the hard fact that current Government is hopeless, looking back from where we were - the situation is gradually improving. For the first time Assembly sessions are going on reasonably well. However, Chandrababu Naidu's nonchalance on the entire episode neither won him Andhra nor Telengana people confidence. I wonder what level of credibility Srikrishna commission would bestow, even if Naidu would go and present his views with facts and figures.
Chiranjeevi does not have strength in case. His strong support for united Andhra Pradesh might have soothed feelings of some sections in society but, he would be looser albeit on lesser scale compared to Chandrababu Naidu.
By 2012 /13, TRS would join Congress in some form or other and Prajarajyam patry (PRP) if exists still, it will merge with Congress. With two opposite poles merging in to Congress, status quo will be continued till 2014 and Telangana will be in the Congress election manifesto again - of course with Congress mark wording. We will see, a Congress Chief Minister from Telangana and a Deputy Chief Minister from Andhra / Rayalaseema.
Chandrababu Naidu will get the Opposition leader status for the third consecutive term in the Assembly and that is a record for any politician in India!

Save Andhra Pradesh - failed democracy
Andhra Pradesh is on the verge of burning again. This time with the announcement of the Terms of Reference for the Justice Srikrishna commission. Since the sad demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy in Sep'09 there is no stopping for the troubles in the state. Both the Government and the opposition have failed to deliver to the people. One man, K Chandrasekhara Rao took the state for ransom. In the end, it is the people of the state have been suffering. Number of innocent people and some of them been students committed suicides. Scores of business establishments have been ransacked for one reason or other. State road transport corporation (APSTRC) lost crores of rupees due to random and public fury. There is no freedom of speech for the people of Andhra and Rayalaseema region. They are seen as traitors and settlers in their own land. Tollywood cannot screen their films in the Telangana Region with out the ransom payments to KCR family or without the implicit support of his daughter or son or nephew Harish Rao.
Where this state is heading? We have a Chief minister called Rosaiah, who is threatened by his own cabinet minister yet, CM cannot do anything. No one listens to him. And when he speaks no one understands. We have a opposition leader in Chandrababu Naidu never seen raising up to the occasion and taking a stand on the suffering of people in the state. With the huge leadership vacuum after YSR death this canny politician would have guided the state but for his vested interests. We have now so many "gally" leaders we think they can do anything in the state without fear.
Universities have become sanctuary for the violent agitations across the state. Students cannot study for the exams. Professors like Kodandaram have become leaders overnight. These professors threten the people, politicians and anything. Caste and religion are again showing colours. Muslims in the state until now remained nonchalant have started entering the scene. The dalits vs upper caste supremacy is sprouting once again.
Government treasury is now getting empty. All promises are now turning empty. Businesses are looking elsewhere - safe destinations.
Impose President rule and give charge to ESL Narasimhan, Governor of the state. When democracy becomes a mockery there is no option but to impose dictatorship in public interest.

Oka Charitra Konni nijaalu - Daggubati Venkateswara Rao
It is very cold weekend here and temperatures are hovering just around freezing. On a casual browsing, I found Oka Charitra Konni nijaalu (One history and few facts?) at www.daggubati.in , authored by Daggubati Venkatewara Rao. He is the husband of Purandarewari, daughter of late NT Ramarao.
This a a very interesting reading narrating Venkateswarao's view point of the events that lead to creation, success and distruction of the NT Ramarao's political career. On the other side, the entire story exposes the canny, cunning and often brutal nature of his co-brother, Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Having lost touch with Telugu books, I found this book flow was very good (perhaps, I was in India during this period and keenly followed some of the developments).
This book in summary is about Power struggle. If we look back in perspective, with relation to today context, some of the events are baffling. For example, deposed from the power, after a political coup enacted by Chandrababu Naidu, at one point - NT Ramarao, having lost all hope, asks his son Nadamuri Balakrishna "if you are my son, kill chandrababu naidu - bring back and show me the knife with Naidu blood". The shocking thing is Balakrishna married his daughter Brahmani to Nara Lokesh, the very Chandrababu Naidu's son whose blood his late father wanted to see!
Second interesting storyline according to the author is - how Chandababu Naidu used both Balakrishna and Harikrishna in the coup plot (and thrown them later like used condoms!). Today, Junior NTR, who is "illegetimte" son of Harikrishna is due to marry Nara Chandrababu Naidu's niece daughter. According to Venkateswara Rao, Chandrababu Naidu held a very low opinion of both these "bright" sons of NTR. OK, Balakrishna marriage took place before the book was published - what about the marriage enagagement that was brokered by Babu last week? I think what Venkateswararao said is true - "in Babu opinion, these are bumb sons of NTR"
The blatant and open references to corruptions practices followed by Chandrababu Naidu are very illustrative. The events in this context clear one point for good. All the allegations that are faced for so long by Chandrababu Naidu about his rags to riches story are clarified. This books shows the anatomy of Chandrababu Naidu's institutionalised corruption in the state. Also, though it might look comic, I was attracted by one point "Babu cannot even write a four word sentence in English" and "forget about his speaking and computer knowledge"
Other interesting aspect is - the book gives ample examples and shows how one can succeed by buying the media. Needless to say, Eenadu was the key for Naidu's success, glory and as well as his fall and struggles. His acts as "Crisis Manager" and using them for his own gain shows the strategic mind of Naidu. And how dumped Renuka Chowdhary when his "Crisis Manager" role backfired for once and then, how he managed shows his survival skills. Ventateswara Rao is also very honest in telling the caste politics in the state and mentions long list of Kamma leaders who queued in front of NT Ramarao. The story of Parvataneni Upendra is good example - to show if you are a Kamma, in Telugu Desam Party one can go from nowhere to anywhere. The sad story is, the same Upendra who did not have any identity before going with NTR later dumped him after reaching top at Delhi.
Well written book, even if Venkateswara Rao told 80% truth it is like any history book - will fore tell what is on the horizon. After all, power can buy anything - blood, caste, trust, faith even sons and daughters (this time no women)!
NT Ramarao, who had given so much of wealth to his children ultimately died an orphan. That is a fact and Rao did not hide this truth.

Is it the end of Telangana state?
Any mass moved would sustain, as long as the emotions are sustained at the highest level. As a famous saying goes, "public memory is poor" and once the emotions are discharged - public memory fades rapidly. At this moment reality would kickin to public, and to the common man who suffered the worst. The real hardships of daily living becomes a naked truth. Earning daily wages, feeding the family and paying the rent. Sending children to the schools or paying their fees. These will not stop for anything including a seamingly genuine struggle.
Between 9th Dec 09 and 5th Jan 2010 the Andhra Pradesh experienced the worst of times for generations. There was no government per se. There was no administration. Police remained spectators. Politicians cutting across all the parties and regions contributed to the chaos.
Common man was charged emotionally to zenith. Suddenly "God" was seen in K Chandrasekhar Rao. He was prepared to die. Die for the cause of Telangana people. Telangana causes. When God's and daemons land on the earth, we have seen what would happen. The state was put for ransom.
Suddenly my neighbour from Andhra became my number one enemy. It was like watching Gadar movie - but just short of killing seen between Hindu's and Muslims. Some one said we are like brothers. There was nothing wrong dividing like true brothers. But we have two mothers!
The traditional drama stage at Ravindra Bharathi shifted to NIMS. Genuine patients and lives were put at risk.
First Andhra and Rayalaseema MLA's and MP's tendered their resignations. But Speaker did not accept. Then Telangana MLA's and MP's did the same and again speaker did not accept. The ministers from both sides resigned publicly. Again Chief Minister did not accept them. All the MLA's, MP's and Ministers are now back to their "daily jobs". Often muttering, again about Telangana and United Andhra Pradesh albeit with low intensity. Like common man, they also realised the hardships in their daily lives. The loss of daily earnings!
New Year came. All MP's / MLA's / Ministers made resolutions. They wanted to die for their people. Given ultimatum to Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh. If the decision on Telengana was not taken on 5th Jan 2010, everyone said - sacrifice is the only answer.
From the December fasting month, we are now come down to the threats. Threat to die - die for the people.
Then came the 6th Jan 2010. Suddenly everything changed. We haven't seen any sacrificies till now. KCR, became silent. Asked for the peace and calm. The students at all universities were amused. While at Delhi, "God" came to KCR with boons and KCR could not refuse. Suddenly our "God" is not seen in public. Like Lord Venkateswara of Tirupathi, this God also went behind seven hills into the elite Banajara Hills in Hyderabad( or Tuglak Road in Delhi). He would meet very few. Talk to few. Only special darshans and no more public apprearance.
Sankranti came and gone. We still hear occasional outbursts. Chandrababu Naidu will send "God" to all those vocal supporters. Congress high command will send "God" to their vocal supporters. "God" will bestow all the boons. Most would be satisfied. And now they talk of development and a parallel movement for Telanaga.
"God" did not come to common man. As usual he would never come to them. Even to see those people who innocently sacrificed their lives. "God" did not come to Osmania and Kakatiya University Students to give "boons". Probably "God" may never visit them to bestow boons. Because, they - the students think they are beyond "God" and boons.
For sometime to come, we will see emotions like after shocks from a big tremors.
The Third Telangana battle has effectively come to an end on 5th Jan 2010 in Delhi. If in the first and second Telagana battles - YS Rajasekhar Reddy defeated K Chandrasekhar Rao with great effort, in the third battle KCR successfully defeated himself. Yet, the common man and a University student still think their "God" KCR will get them the state of Telangana. All these people hope one day the movement will be back with full force. KCR also knows, when the energy and strength from the boons wane, the only way to see "God" again is through this Telangana, Common man and the Students. Until then he will be busy with strategies.
God, please give some wisdom to all those who have really suffered and sacrificied their precious lives - not boons!

Response to 108 facts on Telengana
Some of the Telengana people have done excellent work in putting forward the strong reasons why and how Telengana people, their culture have been marginalised since 1956. Some of the internet blogs are really worth a look for example: http://www.lazydesis.com/political-news/144088-108-facts-about-telangana-need-justification.html. This listing is available at many places on internet and it is not possible to get the name of original author who prepared the listing. These 108 reasons explain why and how Telengana people have been discriminated since 1956 on all fronts including social, political, economic and administrative fronts by dominating Andhra people, leaders and their culture.
Though I do not want to agree for all of the reasons (due to some of the numbers- and the lack of independent authentication), I tend to believe that the Telengana guys are doing excellent job by bringing the facts forward. And reasoning well, why a seperate state is needed as soon as possible.
But Telengana community failed to address how the Andhra and Rayalaseema people have helped to build the state, culture and restore the pride.
1. Assuming that 90% of these reasons are contextually correct, the fact still remains that Telengana politicians have failed for their citizens since 1956. All these erstwhile landlords turned politicians have only become richer since the formation of the state by making their own people poor. How far it is fair to blame Andhra leaders and Andhra people?
2. If Anjaiah, then the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was publicly humiliated by Rajiv Gandhi, is it not NT Ramarao stood up and shown the pride of Telugu people across the word?
3. Now a days, there is a criticism that the Telengana Literature and Telengana intellectuals are not getting right place for their contributions. Does any one remember pre-1983, till NT Rama rao came to power, the plight of Telugu language in Hyderabad? If you speak in Telugu in public you were looked down? And suddenly after 50 years our friends are talking about recognition!
4. Did any one have guts to speak about Telugu during the Nizam rule of Hyderabad state? Did you not learn the Urdu and lived with that for 175 years!
5. If NT Rama Rao, YS Rajasekhara Reddy or N Chandrababu Naidu were selfish towards their regions - then why all these three slogged to bring international fame to Hyderabad at the cost of Andhra or Rayalaseema Regions?
6. Y S Rajaskhar Reddy while he was CM, when took steps for the Kadapa district development - all these Andhra dominated news papers like Andhra Joythy and Eenadu cried so much for his favouritism.
8. Did anyone say negetive when Vengal Rao developed Khammam district?
9. Is is not their own Telengana People who have driven PV Narasimha Rao to Ramtek from Hanmakonda?
10. What happened to Telengana Pride when PV was humiliated even in his death?
11. Is it not, NT Ramarao and Rayalaseema people who welcomed and given PV Narsimha Rao a great victory from Nandyal?
12. Why did YS Rajasekhar Reddy or Daggubati Purandeswari allocated IIT to Medak instead of Kadapa or Visakhapatnam?
13. It is not with Telengana money that Godavari or Krishna barrages at Rajahmundry or Vijayawada have been built?
14. What the MP's and MLA's for the Nalgonda or Mahboobnagar districts have been doing since 1956?
15. Instead of foul mouthing Y S Rajasekhar Reddy all time, did Nagam Janardhan Reddy anytime bothered looking at problems of Mahaboobnagar. Nagam is more worried about Gali Brothers in Ananthapur or Idupulapaya in Kadapa?
16. What did Jaipal Reddy do to Nalgonda district depsite being in the highly powerful position in Government of India for many years? Jaipal only knows how to switch the political parties and stick to power!
17. Why did Jeevan Reddy contest against K Chandra Sekhar Rao and now going with KCR and using his foul mouth? When did he realise the injustices to Telengana? After YSR death or after smelling the opportunity for power?
18. Yes, Potti Sriramulu is not connected with Telengana. But, I born and studied in all my school that Andhra Pradesh is single state and Hyderabad is the capital of the Telugus. Do you want me to study the previous history and say that Hyderabad state belongs to Muslims?
19. When did K Chandrasekhar Rao realise that injustices have been done to Telengana? After enjoying all the power and emassing the wealth?
20. Is it not NT Rama Rao gave K Chandrasekhar Rao and all those BC leaders from Telengana a political life. Where you would have been otherwise? Still getting crushed under the Telengana doralu (landlords)
21. Where is Konda Surekha without Y S Rajasekhar Reddy? She was politically nothing until a decade ago
22. What did Ponnala Laxmaiah do to Telengana Irrigation issues? Did he ever speak in Assembly or Cabinet?
23. OK, may most of the lands around Hyderabad are owned by Andhra people? Is it not a fact that all those local people who could not do anything with those lands became super rich overnight? Are they not driving Honda's and Benz cars?
24. Is it not Andhra and Rayalaseema people whole heartedly supported Telengana movement and provided all the help? Andhra People may be clever according to Telengana people but they did not have vision to see that Hyderabad and IT boom 50 years down the line!
25. If Viswanatha Satyanaryana got Jnanpeeth award, even eminent and well respected Dr C Narayana Reddy was given the same award. Could any one say if some is better or some is less?
26. If Tikkana came from Nellore, Nannayya came from Rajahmundry, Pothana came from Warangal. Can any one say if one is better than other? If any one dare to, it is only to show their ignorance?
27. Ramadasu came from Bhadrachalam (Khammam district) and Annamayya came from Kadapa. Is it not all Telugu people listen to melodies of these two every day? Did any Telengana people did not want to listen or see the Annamayya movie?
28. Before criticizing Kasu Brahmananda Reddy how he handled 1969 issues, it is good to remember that Nizam and Razakars have massacared scores of innocent people in the erstwhile Nizam state. How could K Chandrasekhar Rao praise Nizam and his establishment?
29. Well, from 1948 to 1956 - the Hyderabad state history is not mentioned mostly in schools. But, who is at fault? How many Education ministers came from Telengana? Is there any evidence to prove that Andhra or Rayalaseema people or leaders had a conspiracy?
30. Is it fair to have the NIT at Warangal and IIT at Medak, when Andhra and Rayalaseema do not have a single National Institute? Did any one from Andhra or Rayalaseema made it an issue? Then why are you bothered about two JNTU's in Rayalaseema?
31. Irrigation and in justice? Last two decades, both major and minor irrigation ministries are handled by Telengana leaders. It is Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Kadiyam Srihari in TDP Government and Ponnala Laxmaiah and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy. All are from Telengana! And did not do anything to Telengana for the last two decades. Did they ever differ with Chandrababu Naidu or YS Rajasekhar Reddy on Telengana development? No.
32. What is the track record of K Chandrasekhar Rao? Did he do any development to any of the constituency that he flip flopped all across Telengana? It does not need rocket science knowledge to know what he would do in future!
33. Is it not Manmohan Singh fed up with KCR's inefficiency when he was federal minister? Did he do anything to Telengana while he was Union Labour minister to Telengana or Telengana people? No.
34. How KCR emassed so much of wealth from an Immigration broker to become on of the wealthy persons in the state? (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalvakuntla_Chandrashekar_Rao). How many people this Dubai Chandrasekhar cheated to accumulate this wealth?
35. If Ambedkar wanted Hyderabad to be second capital of India - all Telugu people will be happy and feel proud. But, who stopped it? Not Andhra or Rayalaseema people.
36. Is Jaipal Reddy sleeping all these decades having born in Mahaboobnagar district and representing Kalwakurthi as MLA for four terms? or enjoying the plight of poor people? What way Andhra or Rayalaseema people are resposible for the flight of poor people? Who stopped building irrigation systems to utilize the Krishna waters in the district? How many MLA's and MP's did these people sent to Hyderabad and New Delhi?
37. Andhra or Rayalaseema people have nothing to with the closure of Ramagundam Fertilizer factory. It was due to plant operational inefficiencies. Then that big man from Telengana "Kaka" Venkataswamy was doing? If he spent more time on these issues than on Presidential dreams - something could have been done
38. What is KK (K Keshava Rao's) track record? He never won a single direct election nor served the people of Telengana. Now this "fickle" minded "leader" wanted to do something for Telengana. Go to his official website (http://164.100.24.167:8080/members/website/Mainweb.asp?mpcode=1998). No great track record even in Delhi?
39. Lesser the said about V Hanumantha Rao is good for Telengana people. He is the best mate of KK during all his political career. Cannot even win at Amberpet (his home) where most of the people are not from Andhra or Rayalaseema. His home at Delhi is 11, Janpath and hence he always speaks for Madam but not for people.
40. Andhra and Rayalaseema people are not responsible for the Naxalite problems in Telengana. What Chevella Chellamma, Sabitha Indra Reddy is doing being Home Minister? What did Jana Reddy do for the Telengana being the Home Minister earlier?
41. Did Telengana merged with Andhra forcefully? Is it not a merger after passing resolution in the Hyderabad state assembly?
42. Let's agree that Nizam was richest man in the world but his citizens were very poor.
43. Many Goverment Milk plants in Andhra also have been closed thanks to Chandrababu Naidu. Hence it was not just Telengana faced the problems.
44. Why Andhra region was never industrialised like Telengana by Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders?
45. Unfortunately AP government GO's do not apply for IAS or IPS and other central services.
46. Even in Bangalore, Kannadigas are minority. It is Tamils and Telugu's who dominate the work force all across. How did this happen? Tamil's and Telugu's or Malayalees were willing to move for greener pastures and earlier -Kannadigas did not want to move even from Mysore to Bangalore? Hence they lost all those jobs to outsiders.
47. Are you willing to agree if Muslims being the "natives" of Hyderabad for centuries, and if they ask for a seperate state for Muslims with Hyderabad, Rangareddi, Nizamabad and Karimnagar? They will have the same reasons as you are saying now - like robbers and thugs?
48. Is it not true that Telengana, Andhra and Rayalaseema people killed the "lazy Nawabi" culture of Hyderabad?
49. Will you support North Karnataka and Marthwada a seperate states as they were with you until 1956 as part of Hyderabad state?
50. On your own admission, If more than 90% of the colonies are occupied by Seemandhra people, it is not fair to say that Telengana people are a minority in the Hyderabad metro City area?
51. Do you know how many kaka's, DK's and KK's from Telengana have become filthy rich like Seemandhra leaders and at the expense of common man? How did Dubai Chandrasekhar earn so much of wealth?
52. Agreed, Lagadapati Rajagopal had some controversies with his business and accumulated wealth. How much did Madu Yaskhi Goud earn? What did he do to Nizamabad since he became MP except fighting with YSR and Lagadapati.
53. Rosaiah cannot speak for United Andhra Pradesh but the D Srinivas, can speak for Telengana. Whom do you want to fool? What stops a Chief Minister representing a state to talk for the state?
54. As per the The Hindu article (http://www.hindu.com/mag/2005/12/18/stories/2005121800150200.htm) The paddy boom was such that as many as 50 rice mills came up at Miryalaguda, the largest number at any single place in Asia.
55. Now some Telengana people are saying that Telengana is nothing to do with Potti Sriramulu. And he fought for the liberation of Andhra and Rayalaseema from Tamils / Madras state. OK, there is no evidence that Mahatma Gandhi ever fought for the Hyderabad state liberation from Nizam. Actually, Gandhi did fight against British only. So, how Gandhi can be connected to Telengana and revered? Do not twist the facts. Potti Sriramulu was soldier who died for the Telugu people indentity.
56. I can tell many Telengana names who live in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills. Do not try to protray that all Telengana people are poor. Nama Venkateswara Rao for example is the richest MP in the state. Where is Khammam? Not in Telnagana?
57. Can you tell for sure that none of the Telangana businessmen or Politicians took away the WAKF lands in Hyderabad or Telengana? Look this link: http://www.indianmuslims.info/node/80791 and tells what YS Rajasekhar Reddy did to return the lands. And see this http://www.twocircles.net/2009jun24/compensation_demanded_prime_waqf_land_visakhapatnam.html, such lands have gone similarly in Visakhapatnam as well. Finally, according to this link http://www.anindianmuslim.com/2009/08/should-waqf-boards-be-disbanded-in.html, Andhra Pradesh is the best in India to protect the Wakf lands. And the main problem is, those Walf caretakers are the real culprits. Power does not know the religion? What do you say about the 100's of thousands of Temple lands in entire Andhra Pradesh that have gone into the hands of enchroachers. So, do not link Religion with this issue.
58. You say 150 odd forts in Telangana have been delapidated and not maintained. OK, could tell us which Andhra fort was taken care well by Andhra Pradesh Government? Bobbili fort has gone and so many. But, you see infront of you how Golconda is protected and developed. Suddenly you remember the culture and say Andhra and Rayalaseema people have even ruined little cared and unknown forts that yourselves do not know. Could you tell me the list of those 150? I would like to visit them in my next visit to India
59. Hyderabad Central Univeristy - does it have any reservations for the Andhra People? This Central university is a national university, serving certain objectives. Go to this link http://www.uohyd.ernet.in/ and see the ticker on the university objectives. It does not talk about Telangana / Andhra Pradesh. Compete man! Go to BITS, Pilani or IIT, Chennai - there also you will see mostly Andhra students and facutly. Ask all those bright Telangana students who are robbing the Rajasthani or Tamil opportunities to come back to Karimnagar or Adilabad.
60. Telugu film industry. Yes, it is dominated by Andhra (or for that matter few communities). But if some one got a talent, one can stop them. Prakash Raj the top star in Tollywood is not even from Andhra Pradesh. From where Shayaji Shinde came from? None of the present day Tollywood heroines are from Andhra Pradesh. This is millions of dollars worth business and do not expect reservations. Dubai Chandrasekar - is giving free entertainment on par with Brahmanandam. Enjoy!
61. Telagana accent and comedy in Telugu movies. Even the so called educated and cultured Brahmins, in Tollywood movies are projected as comic characters. Do you want Brahmins to ask for a seperate district if not a state? If it is cultural norm - change it. Do you know Sardarji jokes? They brilliant people on the earth. Do not ask for a seperate state just because of a 5 minute comic scenes in Tollywood movies. I am happy to see Uttej in the movies and I do not think he is demeaning anything.
62. Do you know how many decades it to start Polavaram Project? Do not come to conclusion that it is a cake walk to start a project in Andhra. How many lives and man years have been lost for the Visakhapatnam steel plant- do you know? Did any one die for an industry in Telengana since 1956? Even without asking you get IIT or IIIT or anything!
63. Flourosis in Nalgonda. I agree that Nalgonda is having a problem. But, do not say it is just Nalgonda having problem in entire Andhra Pradesh. According to http://www.fluorosisinandhra.org/fluorosisinap_page.htm, there are as many districts in AP suffer from this problem. Prakasam district is having same level of problems as Nalgonda. This problem is nothing to do with Andhra or Rayalaseema people. This is an adminstrative problem. All the Collectors of these districts, if they were forced to drink the same water as villagers, then this problem would have solved in 1956 itself.
64. Bonalu, Batukamma and Andhra people reluctance to understand. How many of you Telengana guys in US, Europe or Australia being citizens of those countries adapted the local culture and undestood and integrated with the local communities. I am telling you - Zero. Still all these guys want their own culture, and create ghettos to live in their world. First ask all those Telengana people to forget their culture and adapt to the foreigh culture? But you need dollars and Euro, and hang on there by hook or crook!
65. What effort did Telangana people made to understand Andhra or Rayalaseema culture? Do you know the culture of Srikakulam? Why should I know, when it is not in my way of life?
66. Hyderabad is not a Kashimir for Andhra people as it is for Pakistan. Do not get too emotional. My son is born there, so my nephew and my niece. I studied here and worked in Hyderabad. If my Father came to Telengana, so is Dubai Chandrasekhar's grand father or KK's great grand father. All Andhra and Rayalaseema people have right to live in Hyderabad or Nizamabad.
67. Do not show over enthusiam to prove something incorrect See this http://www.jstor.org/pss/4362030. As a matter of fact Mulki's came to protect primarily the Telengana people from the Northern Indians or Hindustanis. Do you know the Karnakaka and Maratha people of Hyderbad state ever had the benefit of Mulki once they were merged into respective states? See this link http://telanganautsav.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/mulki-rules-movement-in-hyderabad-karnataka/ and according to them, Telengana people are fortunate. How perceptions change amonst the cousins!
68. How hungry are you guys? Not satisfied with so many big universities- you also want, Health University at Vijayawada or Mahila University at Tirupathi also to be moved to Hyderabad? Then you blame, Andhra and Rayalaseema people are taking away your jobs?
69. Andhra Controlled Media? Who made Dubai Chandrasekhar a hero? Is not this Andhra Controlled media? He was not willing to contest an election & lost his face in public but, overnight he was made a hero by Andhra controlled media. Yes, this media is the real culprit for all the problems we have today.
70. Telagana Sayudha Poratam inspired the West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura and paved way for formation of Communist governments in those States. Excellent? So you want to pass the baton to Annalu (Naxalites who are sitting in the forests and universities) and seek their inspiration to join the insurgency movement to destabilise India further. You know where WB, Kerala and Tripura are today and their standing vis-a-vis Gujarat, Tamil Nadu or Karnataka! Wake up - China is NOT a communist country anymore. Seek positive inspiration.
71. Did you ever read Rachakonda Vishwanatha Sastri novels? He is considered, perhaps one of the greatest authors from (North Coastal) Andhra Pradesh. I tried to read, but I could not understand. The reason being, he writes in colloquial Telugu of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. Hard to read and hard to understand flow. I tried and found the same complexity with Kaloji Narayana Rao. And never attempted to read Viswanatha Satyanarayana. All these people are great. On writes in classical Telugu and other in colloquial. This is called diversity. Do you know the German spoken in Bavaria is so different and heavy that even the native Germans cannot understand easily. Instead of demeaning yourselves, try to enrich and motivate other people to read. Shouting and howling won't do much. Did any one force you to read Sri Sri Mahaprastanam? Be proud of Telengana Telugu accent!
72. Life won't end by singing in Telangana song or garlanding Telanga Talli. Would any one dare to open a Telanga Telugu medium school and send their children to those schools? I challenge that not even Dubai Chandrasekhar will send his grand child!
73. Why K Chandrasekhar Rao lives in Banjara Hills amongst the Andhra and Rayalaseema rich people? Please ask him to lead by example and go and live in Dhool pet (http://164.100.47.132/LssNew/Members/Biography.aspx?mpsno=4083) and show solidarity. Incidentally, his home at New Delhi is in Tughlaq Road. What a coincidence!
74. Suddenly few Telengana "fantics" have become agressive and exprssing feelings that Nizam and his rule was better than Andhra people and their company. Great guys! I wonder, why you did not support the Nizam proposal to join Pakistan than India or remain independent nation. You may forgive your enemies but do not forget their names.
75. Hyderabad and natural growth? Well, everybody knows the situation of Hyderabad and the reputation till 1983. Do you think that Microsoft or Infosys or HSBC have come to Hyderabad seeing the lobbying of Dubai Chandrasekhar? It is hard slog of two Chief Ministers for more than 2 decades. Tell me how many Telangana leaders have participated in buidling "Brand Andhra Pradesh" or "Brand Andhra"? None
76. If you think Andhra people are thugs or robberers - get ready, the Dubai Chandrasekhar from Bobbili or KK from Machilipatman will strip you guys naked in public even without your knowledge
77. Do you know how many districts in Andhra and Rayalaseema did not have a major industry? And yet, you call West Godavari a developed district than Karimnagar District.
78. Do you have Mulkis implemented in the Karnatak and Marthwada parts of the erstwhile Hyderabad state when they were demerged in 1956? Why it is so unique for Andhra Pradesh only. If you tell a lie repeatedly do not think it would be truth. Stop calling Andhra people cunning, clever or arrogant. These are perceptions.
79. Telengana peasant rule! What way Andhra people are connected with the cruelity of the Telangana landlords to their own people. See this http://cssaame.dukejournals.org/cgi/pdf_extract/4/1/1 and is it not true that all these people have been marginalized after 1956? Why did PV Narasimha Rao lost him Chief Ministership. Was it not, he wanted to implement land ceiling act and the Telangana landlords siezed him?
80. Read this http://jabilli.wordpress.com/ for some of the answers to 108. Do not make shocking statements like not a single acre of land was not submerged in Guntur while thousands were lost in Nalgonda district (Actually I did realise just now that some had made responses even bigger than 108, to bring forward the truth)
More will be added in coming days
66. Hyderabad is not a Kashimir for Andhra people as it is for Pakistan. Do not get too emotional. My son is born there, so my nephew and my niece. I studied here and worked in Hyderabad.
