Botsa Satyanarayana called the first shots - and announced, his full blown support for the bifurcation of the AP state. He was called a cheater or political opportunist by the so called Seemandhra leaders who are by and large in favour of United Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, he was complimented for his pragmatism and has been praised by the Telangana leaders who are in favour of Telangana state. Slowly, few more cabinet ministers have already started supporting the call along with Botsa's own supporters in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This could be either overall Congress game plan or Bosta's own strategy. In case, I think Botsa has positioned himself very well. If Andhra State forms as he is suggesting - then Botsa would be the powerful leader and without any doubt will be in reckoning for Chief Minister position.
Bosta comes from the Vizianagaram district. He is a backward class - (Toorpu) Kapu leader from a backward region. And he had a meteoric raise in Andhra Pradesh politics. Since Congress came to power in 2004 - he and his family have gained an iron grip in North Coastal Andhra political scene. Despite initial hiccups, sometimes becoming a comic character for the daily news papers and TV's, Bosta clearly mastered the art of politics. Even the wily YS Rajasekhar Reddy could not challenge Bosta aspirations and as a result we have now 3 or 4 MLA's, one MP and one ZP Chairman from his family - all in Vizianagaram district! Ample demonstration of his powerful position in the state politics.
[See this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLms39wDZT8]. I think Bosta got tremendous clarity, understanding and expression of his thought. His voice shows conviction and he knows what to say and what not to say even in the live discussion.
Well, in Andhra Pradesh there are lot of perceptions. Andhra people think they are superior (I do not know in what terms) to Telangana or Rayalaseema people [that is a root cause of Telangana agitation]. Similarly even in Andhra - people from Krishna and Guntur think Godavari district people are less clever and they in turn think - Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram district people are less clever and or less superior. This is the first deceptive view of Botsa Satyanarayana. Let me now put this in perspective. Even Y S Rajasekhar Reddy was considered "less intelligent" and "less clever" or "foolish" than Chandrababu Naidu. This was the view of TDP, Naidu and even the newspapers like Eenadu and Andhrajyothy. YSR comes from Rayalaseema! But, it is now historic fact that YSR was the smartest politician of the last decade.
Moving beyond deceptions - traditionally strong leaders always come from poorer and backward regions (YSR, Naidu, PV, Rajiv, Sonia etc). Being from a backward region - Bosta is naturally positioned to be a strong leader. Secondly, Botsa is the ready answer for backward classes thirst for the political power. If we look in Andhra - there are no mass leaders. Lagdapati, Kavuri or Rayapati reach is not beyond Krishna and Guntur areas. In south, Jagan is paying price for the blunders and he is not in reckoning for the top slot except in the view of Sakshi.
No one is ready to trust Chandrababu Naidu. Perhaps if Andhra state forms the biggest casualties are Naidu and Jagan. Now coming to other equations - Kapu's would become the largest and numerically influential community in Andhra region. They are starving for power since Chiranjeevi failed miserably. While Chiranjeevi took a decision and made a blunder, Naidu by not taking any decision made a gigantic blunder. Thus thanks to Babu and Chiru, Botsa with political, monetary muscle is in best position to counter the strong Kamma, Reddy and other upper caste communities.
With the fast pace politics and rapidly changing equations - anything is possible. But, I think - Botsa is clearly positioned himself to become the Chief Minister of Andhra State or Andhra Pradesh State. Of course, in any political race - it is not the first who called the shots always won but I do not under estimate Botsa Satyanarayana or Sattibabu as he is fondly called!
