UPA Strategic Blunder?

In about 48 hrs, the fate of the UPA government will be decided in the Parliament. What ever be the outcome, the events run up to the no-confidence clearly damaged credibility of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his UPA Government

The horse trading, soft bribes, soothings, cocktail parties, dinner diplomacy and many more that are happening in the power corridors have put a question mark on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh honesty. Well, no will will ever say Dr Manmohan Singh is a corrupt person. But, abetting a corrupt malpractice in itself amount to corruption. With the news so open the public domain, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh credibility is severely damaged.

Well, knowing the congress culture, there could be a cunning plan behind the scenes to damage the credibility of this respected person. After all, in Congress there can be no one other than from Gandhi - Nehru family can have glory. See how P V Narasimha Rao or Lal Bahadur Sashtri are dusted into history - thanks to Congress high command

Unfortunately, Dr Singh took this deal too personal. Dr Manmohan Singh thought there is a lot in it for India and considered as his legacy. Despite all the low profile "instruction" based office he run for the four years, when it came to Nuclear Deal - Dr Singh wanted to have it his way. In the process he failed to anticipate the political fallout for the Government. Winning is all together different from winning by any means. Dr Singh wanted to win. But he may not want to win at any cost. But unfortunately for Dr Singh, having taken a stand to move forward, the rest is no more in his hands. The "Generals" and "Comrades" have taken over from him. Now Dr Singh became a mute spectator. Having put his personal stake into this he cannot fall under pressure. Nor his own consciousness won't allow to win at any cost.

It is very clear that the nation is split over the Nuclear Deal. There is no consensus. Either party have failed to explain the merits on their side of argument.

Dr Manmohan Singh instead should have resigned from the office and sough a general election. If UPA failed to return, there is no harm. After all a deal of great importance is decided by the nation in public franchise. If nation didn't want it - let it go. Dr Singh had no reason to feel pained or ditched. But, the current events are putting a credible Prime Minister into a questionable situation.

Sadly, in Congress some one has to take blame for a debacle and I am afraid - it will be none other than Dr Manmohan Singh. It will make, Dr Singh into history and let the prince of Amethi to take the mantle.

Unfortunately for India, still the country has not reached a level where Economics rule over politics (as in US). It is politics still rule over Economics. Dr Singh is still an Economist.
