Next President of India, Who?

I am constrained to put the blog title rather funny way. The question can be framed in many ways:

Who will be the next President of India?
Who can be the next President of India?
Who could be the next President of the India?
Who may...?
Who is...?

We have many propositions to start with. Any Indian Citizen by default can become next President! But from more than a Billion Indians, the shortlist will contain no more than 100. From them, only one could actually become the next President. Some may miss the boat this time or perhaps for ever.

Before, moving in the wider options, the first option and top of the list is Dr Kalam himself. Then the question is - is he worth to be reconsidered?

President of India is a ceremonial Head. This is what the Constitution says and most of the pastPresidents have struck to these rules. But, at the critical times, when there is a political vaccum or instability at the Federal Government, President plays all important role. By far barring few Presidents, most of them are non-controversial. At the same time, none of the remaining have proved to be Role models. As a result, the office of President is seen as last 5 years office before retirement.

The current President is an exception. After Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, he comes from a non-political background. Many doubted his ability to perform even this ceremonial job. But during the five years, he proved all his critics wrong. He is the darling of the nation and most prominent face of the India's raising confidence. His simplicity and approach to the people won many accolades. He is a role model President. Both Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, considered to be the most powerful Indians today, are miles behind him - by any measure of yardstick. To summarise, Dr Kalam's Presidency brought much required Dynamism to this ceremonial office.

It proves again a simple point that performers always perform come what ever be the circumstances. When India, today seen by the rest of the world as the rising Global Power, Dr Kalam's pivotal role in motivating every Citizen must be underlined. He speaks to either little Children, or to a group of Soliders, or to group of MP's in Parliament with the same conviction and vision. Everyone listens to him.

Dr Kalam never ran behind anyone for any position. He himself did not show much enthusiasm for the second term.

At this juncture, no other person of the 1 billion plus lot can replace this gigantic personality - and bring wider acceptance, dynamism, vision and respect to the President of India's office.

Let's hope for the best.
