Charles Philip Brown - Missing?

If you travel from one end of tankbund to another, on way to Secunderabad from Hyderabad - host of statues called Telugu Velugulu (Torch brearers of Telugus) would feast every Telugu person on left and cool breeze from Hussain Sagar on the right. Botton of each statue a small poem is engraved on a granite stone to signify the contribution. These statues were installed - when NT Rama Rao became Chief Minister. When the proposal was made in 1980's there was a controversy on account of "missing" Telugu legends from the list. Despite this, over a period of time, the initiative was a successful, as it brought some identity to the great Telugu people who have enriched the literature, culture over the decades and centuries

Probably until then (and may be even now) - many Telugu people were not aware that Legendary Tygaraju was a Telugu person. Despite the fact the Tyagarju is an icon in Tamil Nadu and considered the king of Karnatic Music, he never wrote a single kriti in any other language other than Telugu.

Then we have, Gurajada Apparao, Sri Sri, Tikkanna, Srikrishna Dava Rayalu and many more. I have seen these status many many times - including during the morning walks while at Hyderabad.

But, today - I am shocked to see that - Charles Philip Brown, the Englishman who did yeoman services to the Telugu literature and culture is missing from the list. It never occurred to me until, I was looking at the list carefully on account of couple of reasons. First on controversy about the recognition of Telugu as a historic or legendary (Pracheena bhasa) language. Second, the on controversy about, CP Brown burial tomb at London.

Some of the "publicity seeking" individuals have claimed that they discovered CP Brown burial at a London cemetery (unlike in India, all burials records are available with the local council records and it is not impossible for anyone to seek the details). Secondly, all burials in a cemetery are enumerated. Then, these people wanted to protect this tomb as it in debilitated condition.

CP Brown is a person immense value for all Telugu people. I did not understand why some people along with Telugu association in London want to protect this tomb? Why cannot Government of Andhra Pradesh take that action? (CP Brown is very much a kapada bidda)

Second, why CP Brown is missing from the Tankbund? Those people who wanted to make moves at London may perhaps concentrate their efforts in seeking recognition to this great Telugu person in own home soil.

Today is a sad day to me - having realised that CP Brown is missing from the Telugu Velugulu list. Hope some remedial action would be taken by YS Rajasekhar Reddy Government to correct this historic mistake.
