Telugu Desam Party's Strategic Blunder

K Chandra Sekhar Rao is very inconsistent and maverick personality. Despite having best of the opportunities to realise his political goal, KCR bumped into a wall, largely due to self inflicted wounds. Currently he is in political isolation abandoned by every political party.

Despite all the ambiguity, KCR has shown tremendous consistency in couple of aspects. His antagonism towards Andhra People, hatred towards Telugu Desam which he departed to launch the Telengana Rastra Samiti (TRS), and heavy and systematic attacks on Chandra Babu Naidu for his unified Andhra Pradesh stand.

Now, the news that Telugu Desam and TRS likely to form an alliance looks like a biggest political blunder from Chandrababu Naidu.

First, I think CBN is over rating the capability and political power of KCR. As I said, since the last by election debacle, he became a political widow. At this point, CBN is giving unnecessary life injection through this unwarranted political marriage.

Second, with the imminent entry of Nandamuri Balakrishna and other family members into the political scene, Telugu Desam is having best of opportunities to revitalise the party fortunes. When at a time, TDP is having such an opportunity, by going for this alliance with TRS - TDP is doing same mistake that was committed by Congress when it formed an alliance with TRS, when their landslide victory was assured in last general elections. As Congress faced nuisance, TDP is also bound to face a similar one.

Third, unlike Congress which is a national party, Telugu Desam is a regional party and it would not be in a position to influence next Government in Delhi. If for some reason, Telugu Desam Party were to emerge successful and form the next Government in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu would not favour a separate state. Originally CBN was for unified Andhra Pradesh and his current position, is due to political compulsions rather a fundamental policy shift.

At this juncture, CBN decision to go with TRS lacks any logic, and if all - it shows how desperate and dire situation Telugu Desam Party is in today.
